KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Chiefs fan was given fake tickets to the AFC Championship Game.

Stephanie Kurtz followed the team to Baltimore for what she thought was going to be a dream come true.

“We thought it was a joke,” Kurtz said.

Kurtz said she and her cousin got tickets to the Chiefs-Ravens game only to spend watching it at a Baltimore bar.

“We were almost at the game, we were at the parking lot, and our friend called and said, we just tried to go into the game, and our tickets aren’t working; they’re telling us they’re fake,” Kurtz said.

Sure enough, when they tried to scan their tickets, they were immediately denied.

“So, we had to go to the ticket office, and they told us, basically, someone was already sitting in the seats,” Kurtz said.

Kurtz couldn’t believe it and started weighing their options.

“There’s not a lot you can do,” Kurtz said. “We tried everything we could, we tried to buy new tickets, but the Wi-Fi there was really hard to get through, and then the ticket prices were just ridiculous.”

So, they took some pictures in front of the stadium and went to a nearby bar to watch the game they flew over 1,000 miles to watch in person.

“If you’re going to go to a game and not actually go, it was still fun,” Kurtz said.

Kurtz is using her loss to warn others ahead of the Super Bowl.

“I would say make sure it’s legit,” Kurtz said. “Make sure the tickets are what they say.”

Also, legit tickets will always be sent to you through the Ticketmaster app. They are the official partner of the NFL. Paper tickets are fake. Screenshots of QR codes could be fake or double-sold. Don’t accept a pdf or screenshot.
