Independence family is house divided for Super Bowl rematch between Chiefs and 49ers
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Velazquezes are a house divided, literally!
Debbie Velazquez is a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan, and her husband, Marcelo, is the ultimate San Francisco 49ers fan.
“When I moved into the house, everything was Chiefs, the whole room,” Marcelo said. “So, after two or three years, I said ‘OK, we’re going to have to divide it.’”
So, that’s what they did: half of their basement is decked out from floor to ceiling in everything Chiefs, and the other side is all 49ers gear.
“It’s fun,” Debbie said. “We do get very ionate.”
But it’s a whole different ballgame now as the Chiefs and the 49ers are headed to the Super Bowl. in Las Vegas.

“We are both nervous,” Debbie said. “When the Chiefs won the championship, I was like, come on, Detroit! But when the 49ers turned things around in the second half, he and I were on different sides of the room just pacing back and forth.”
The two said they are going to take their household divide to Vegas, each saying their team is going to come home with the big win.
“Oh the Chiefs, let’s go, Chiefs,” Debbie said.
“The Chiefs are getting out of hand; it’s getting too much,” Marcelo said. “Everyone talks about the Chiefs, oh the Chiefs, they’re so good, and now we got Kelce and his girlfriend, and I’m tired of that; go 49ers,” Marcelo said.
