INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - The Independence Police Department tells KCTV5 that the two officers shot and injured during a fatal shooting in late February have now returned home and continue to recover.

The two officers were shot as they responded to reports that a civil process server, later identified as Drexel Mack, had been shot as he served an eviction to Larry Acree, 69, in the 1100 block of N. Elsea Smith Rd. Officer Cody Allen was also shot and killed during the response.

Acree was also taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries after he was subdued. He was charged with two counts of murder in the first degree in the days following the incident. He remains behind bars on a $2 million bond.

No further hearings have yet been filed in the case against Acree.
