KU women win OT thriller to advance in NCAA Tournament
LOS ANGELES (KCTV) – The No. 8 seed Kansas women’s basketball team is still dancing thanks to an 81-72 overtime win over No. 9 seed Michigan.
The Jayhawks trailed by double digits with six minutes to go. Senior Zakiyah Franklin finished off a KU rally by knocking down a three with 12 seconds left to tie the game and send it to OT.
Shawnee Mission West alum and true freshman S’Mya Nichols drove for an and-one with 25 seconds left in OT to expand KU’s lead to six. She finished with 15 points and four assists, including the to Franklin on the game-tying triple in regulation.
Franklin led all scorers with 22 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Up next, KU will play either No. 1 USC or No. 16 Texas A&M Corpus Christi for a trip to the Sweet 16.
