KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - On Monday the Chiefs officially kicked off phase one of the team’s voluntary offseason program.

With the NFL Draft in Detroit less the two weeks away, the reigning back-to-back Super Bowl Champions conduct virtual meetings with the coaches and players across the country.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes holds his own workouts with wide receivers in his home state of Texas. But the two-time Super Bowl MVP did return to Kansas City this past weekend for Sporting KC’s match at Arrowhead vs. Lionel Messi and Inter Miami.

”It’s awesome to see a guy at the top of any league in the entire world,” Mahomes said: “The vision he had, goal he scored, it shows you what it’s like when you have the top of the top in any profession.”

Mahomes also praised his first impression of new Chiefs wide receiver Hollywood Brown.

“I think everyone has seen his speed, but I think the route running is what I’ve been pleasantly surprised by,” he said. “I believe that’s something we can emphasize in our offense.”

Head Coach Andy Reid said second-year wide receiver Rashee Rice is participating in the team’s zoom meetings. Reid said he’s talked with Rice, but isn’t commenting on his current legal situation, and “letting the law enforcement part take place.”

Linebacker Nick Bolton, a Mizzou product, spoke on potentially g a second contract to stay in Kansas City.

“I’ve been in the state of Missouri going on seven years now. It definitely feels like home,” Bolton said. “The fans, community, open arms since I got here as an 18-year-old. Staying here would be a blessing. It’d be a dream come true if we could get that done in the foreseeable future.”

Reid field questions about various Chiefs players, including new signees.

  • Andy Reid on wide receiver Kadarius Toney: “He’s arguably one of the most talented guys we have on the team. It’s just a matter of him being able to stay healthy and stay on the field… It’s great that he’s down there working with Pat and putting the work in.”
  • Reid on g free agent backup tight end Irv Smith Jr.: “Irv is a tight end who kind of does everything really good. He’s a good receiver and blocker. Not the biggest, but plays a physical game.”
  • Reid on the addition of rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit, who will start off as a running back: “His dad played six years in a European football league. So he’s somewhat familiar with the sport. He’s had success with rugby. There are some similarities there… That’s not an easy transition, but he seems to be wired for it.”

Next up, the NFL Draft arrives next Thursday, April 25.

Kansas City is slotted for:

  • Round 1, Pick 32
  • Round 2, Pick 64
  • Round 3, Pick 95
