Kansas City police end hours-long standoff in the West Bottoms
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Officers with the KCK and KCMO Police Departments were on the scene of a standoff that lasted from 9:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
The standoff started around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday after Kansas City, Kansas, police attempted to arrest a man for a felony warrant. The man ran away from the officers and crossed the state line into Missouri. He entered a wooded area off St. Louis Avenue in the West Bottoms.
Officers with the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department arrived and attempted to make with the man, but he claimed to be armed and threatened to harm himself and others. The officers retreated and began an Operation 100/Police Standoff, surrounding the wooded area to protect nearby residents and businesses.
Negotiators spoke with the man for several hours, attempting to bring a peaceful resolution to the incident. Around 2:15 p.m., he was taken safely into custody with assistance from a KD K-9 officer.
He will now be arrested and processed for his felony warrant, KD reported.
