Chiefs rookie – and his pet alligator – ‘Steele-ing’ the show in St. Joe
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KCTV) – Kansas City Chiefs rookie Carson Steele has earned himself a nickname among his teammates at training camp.
It has nothing to do with his touchdown in Jacksonville, or his ability to play both running back and fullback.
“The favorite one I’d say is ‘Crocodile’ because of my pet alligator,” Steele said.
That’s right: Steele’s five-foot-long, 90 to 100-pound gator, appropriately named ‘Crocky J.’
“I got him second or third grade probably as a Christmas present,” Steele, who signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent, said. “So I’ve had him a little while now. He’s in a big aquarium back home.”

The Ball State and UCLA product is in a fight to make the final 53-man roster.
“If he’s gonna make the team, he’s gotta be a good special teams player,” head coach Andy Reid said. “He’s gotta be able to carry the football and stay aggressive like he’s doing right now – but he had a productive day.”
“I was excited,” Steele said of his performance in Jacksonville. “Celebrated that night a little bit, scoring the first touchdown, but after that it was kind of go-time for the next week.”
The Chiefs host the Lions in their second of three preseason games Saturday at 3 p.m.
