‘It’s going to be a wonderful year’: Blue Springs School Board selects new president
BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (KCTV) - In its August meeting, the Blue Springs School Board selected Rebeca Swank as its new president followed Bobby Hawk’s resignation earlier this year.

“Dark clouds may appear at times, but they will never deter the continued excellence that is tradition at the Blue Springs School District and our board of education,” said board member Rhonda Gilstrap. “Despite challenges, our future is very bright. This board will play an important part in the district’s future as we serve others and as we continue to build trust. We will grow through these challenges.”
After abuse allegations were raised by several women, Bobby Hawk stepped down as the lead pastor of EPIC Church and resigned from his position as school board president, leaving the position open.
The board unanimously voted for Swank on Monday and it was met by applause from the audience.

“I think our whole purpose is to be here for our students, our educators, and to continue moving forward,” said Swank. “I believe in the tradition of excellence this school district has. I’m just really excited to not only my fellow board , but to students, educators, and staff who are getting ready for this next academic year. It’s going to be a great one.”
Swank became a board member last year. Her message to Blue Springs families ahead of school starting next week:
“Let’s get ready!” said Swank. “It’s going to be a wonderful year.”
The board also addressed its vacant position. Applications to apply for the position will be available starting Tuesday, Aug. 13. The deadline to apply is Friday, Aug. 23. The person selected for the position will have the job until next April.
