Nonprofit Krucial Rapid Response on standby to send aid as Hurricane Francine makes landfall
LENEXA, Kan. (KCTV) - As hurricane Francine made landfall as a category 2 on Wednesday evening, a local organization is also keeping a close eye on the storm and has been preparing to head that way, if needed.
Non-profit organization, Krucial Rapid Response based in Lenexa, Kansas has been on standby, as they wait for orders to decide if they need to be deployed or not.
The President of the organization, Jeff Huff said they are well prepared if they get that call.
“We are always, especially during hurricane season, are watching different channels and looking at weather reports, online and sites and looking at okay there’s a disturbance here, this is what this looks like,” he said.

According to Huff, Krucial Rapid Response spend eight months getting ready for hurricanes like Francine. The best way to respond to emergencies is preparedness.
“We have to do so many things as far as systems. We do tabletop exercises. we act as if there is active deployment and we have people answering phones and on-boarding people,” Huff explained “People don’t realize how much especially with the medical side of it, the certifications and the state requirements.”
Huff said they are the largest non-profit staffing organization in the country with over 375,000 people that at any given moment are willing to step in if they can.
As soon as they have boots on the ground Huff said it’s all about making sure their patients know that they are cared for and they are going to be taken care of.
“It’s the people that run into the emergency and not away from the emergency and so it’s really fulfilling to know you’re a part of something greater than yourself, that you’re helping others.”

There is always the possibility they won’t be needed, but Huff said they are grateful for the opportunity to help others when they can.
“We know our systems work, we’ve tested them, we’ve done it. What our goal really is going forward into the future is to work with as many cities and counties and states to be able to help them with their emergency response,” Huff said.
Krucial Rapid Response said they should know within the next 24 to 48 hours if they need to head out.
