73-year-old beaten to death at Kansas City, Missouri apartments
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Saturday night just before 10:20 patrol officers responded to a call in the 10500 block of E 42nd Street just east of the Truman Sports Complex on the report of a dead body.
Upon arrival at the Stonegate Meadows Apartments parking lot, officers found a man identified as 73-year-old Ollie Thompson, severely beaten, and dead on the scene.
Detectives canvassed the complex for anyone who may have heard or seen something. Crime scene investigators collected all available physical evidence in an effort to learn what led to his death.
Neighbors told KCTV5 they saw a huge police presence in the parking lot and wondered what had happened.
Vivianne Craft, 72, lives in the neighborhood, which she said is filled with elderly and children.
“It’s frightening, it’s very sad,” Craft said.
This neighborhood is no stranger to crime. Last month, shots were fired from the playground, going through a unit, hitting a teen as he was walking through his kitchen. Thankfully, he survived.
“There is crime everywhere,” Craft said.
Craft believes management is trying to turn things around, but the surrounding area has her worried for their safety.
“They [management] are good people,” Craft said. “There were cars always parked with no plates - they’re towing them away now. They’re cleaning up this area,” she said.

If anyone has any information on this crime they are asked to the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline that may lead to the closure of the case.
