What if? BBQ restaurant owner living with fallout from Chiefs bet he didn’t make
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) - Brian White has had a great life, spending the past 45 years cooking up barbecue. He didn’t have a care in the world until August, when his son found a Kansas City Chiefs bet offered online.
He makes good money from his family’s Smoketown BBQ restaurant. But he learned a $500 bet could win him $600,000 if the Chiefs went undefeated and won the Super Bowl!
A funny thing happened though before he could put the money down.
“Well, my wife hears about this and a couple of things happen,” he said. “We did not place the bet.”
Brian is thrilled for the Chiefs to be winning all these games. But at the same time, you can’t blame him for asking ‘what if?’”

“And here we are in Week 11—undefeated—and I’m getting a little nervous,” he said.
That was especially true last Sunday, when Leo Chenal’s late-game heroics saved the day.
Maybe a prayer that Brian offered up made a difference.
“I said ‘Jesus, if we ever needed a block, now would be the time.’”
If you think the Chiefs and Broncos were shocked, you should have seen Brian and his wife.
“I just went berserk, and my wife just shook her head and went back to the other room.”
The odds are still stacked against the Chiefs to accomplish that feat, but if these guys can beat those odds? Well, his daughter speaks for the whole family.
“That would suck,” Kim said, “because I could have got some of that money!”
