NFL’s annual ‘My Cause, My Cleats’ game puts spotlights on Chiefs players’ causes
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Kansas City Chiefs will once again have a stand-alone game spotlight on them when they suit up for a Black Friday game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Amazon Prime Video exclusive holiday game between the Chiefs and their AFC West rivals is a chance for Kansas City to continue its domination of the division all while players showcase foundations they care about.
The NFL’s ‘My Cause, My Cleats,” program allows for extra colorful cleats in Week 13. Some of the Chiefs players will have their custom cleats auctioned off with proceeds going to a charity they designate. For safety Justin Reid, that’s his foundation, the JReid Indeed Foundation.
“We’ve been running it for five years now,” Reid told KCTV this week of the organization that helps youth. “My foundation focuses on tech, but we also do nutrition and some financial literacy stuff.
“Some of the experiences I had I didn’t know I’d be good at something like coding until I was exposed to it,” the Stanford grad said. “So I want to give that same opportunity to kids, equip them with the skills to have a better tomorrow.”

Reid’s shoe design isn’t by accident. His green cleats showcase the coding theme that he’s attempting to teach area youth.
“We’ve got some rain of computer coding coming down,” Reid said, “playing off the STEM things that we do. There’s a lightning bolt because our programs are fully charged. And we like kids getting into STEM and learning about things.”
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and even head coach Andy Reid will be getting in on the cause as well. Mahomes, who has been the organization’s Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee in years’ past, will be honoring his 15 and the Mahomes foundation’s 15 and Fare organization, which offers food allergy edcuation, access to care, and the resources patients need to confidently manage food allergies.
Andy Reid will be wearing customized Nike Air Max shoes on the sidelines in honor of the Giving Machines at Union Station in Kansas City. Wide receivers DeAndre Hopkins and Xavier Worthy will be honoring the Boys & Girls Clubs as well.
So while the Chiefs have a chance to continue their quest for the AFC’s No. 1 seed, they’ll do so Friday while advocating for causes close to them.
