ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Missouri Gov. Elect Mike Kehoe offered condolences on Wednesday to the family of a 16-year-old youth hockey player fatally struck by a bullet while riding in a vehicle on Interstate 55 in St. Louis.

In the post on the social media site X, formerly Twitter, Kehoe also said the criminal responsible for the death of Colin Brown must be held to and lawlessness in the city must stop.

“Devastated to hear of the ing of Colin Brown, a 16-year-old who was tragically shot while riding home from his hockey game on I-55,” Kehoe said. “The lawlessness plaguing St. Louis must stop, and the criminal responsible for this tragedy must be held able.”

“Claudia and I are praying for Colin’s family and the entire @CBCHighSchool community,” he said.

Brown was struck by a bullet around 10:30 p.m. Saturday while on his way home from a game with his father. They were driving on I-55 near Loughborough Avenue when a bullet entered the vehicle and struck the teen. He died Wednesday from injuries sustained in the shooting.

St. Louis Metropolitan Police and federal law enforcement agencies are investigating. Detectives located evidence of a shooting in the southbound lanes of the Interstate. So far a suspect has not been arrested in Brown’s death.

On Thursday, the nonprofit One In Five Foundation For Kids, formerly known as the Uvalde Foundation For Kids, offered a $5,000 reward for information on the suspect. The foundation also announced a scholarship would be established for a student at Christian Brothers College (CBC) High School, where Brown attended.

“This student, this young man, loved by many leaves and empty chair behind,” the foundation said. “For him, and those who love him - we reignite the call in St Louis to end this violence plaguing our students and communities and through this memorial scholarship our foundation seeks to ensure he will always be ed and his love for hockey and life will live on.”

“We urge those responsible for this shooting to simply do the right thing and turn yourself in,” it said.
