40,000 tons of salt, 300 snow plows: Kansas City prepared for weekend winter storm
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - On Friday, Kansas City, Missouri leaders shared they’ve been preparing since the summer for a winter storm like this and they are ready more than ever.

At 7 a.m. Friday, crews started spreading 40,000 tons of salt throughout Kansas City.
They have at least 300 snow plows and trucks ready to go with about 400 staff to get the work done.
“We know that this will be a real challenge in Kansas City and throughout the region but I also have great confidence in the people we have assembled. In recent years we have seen them deploy new trucks, deploy more people, and always have dedicated staff at Kansas City that will work overtime to make sure we have those issues addressed,” said Kansas City, Missouri Mayor Quinton Lucas.

They will be out 24/7 clearing the roads and laying ice treatment once the snow falls.
Mayor Lucas asks everyone to stay home if they can and check on your neighbors and loved ones now to make sure they are prepared for the storm.
Warming centers will be open, RideKC will operate as normal unless the weather changes things, and the myKCMO app is available after the storm if you still find slick spots or areas that need to be cleared, you can report it there.
“There is perhaps an old tale that suggests there are some parts of the city that are plowed or treated with special attention as compared to others, that is not accurate. What it is based on is where has the snow fallen, where it needs to be treated, and our goal is to address the entire city, whether you are in the far north, far south any part of the city in between,” said Mayor Lucas.
Whatever this predicted storm throws at the city, each department is prepared to work overtime to address any issues.
“This has the potential to be one of the most significant storms in Kansas City’s history, but I will say we have never been more prepared we’ve never had more drivers, more trucks, more salt on hand in our history period,” said Kansas City, Missouri City Manager, Brian Platt.
