KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Kansas City International Airport reopened Saturday evening as the winter storm impacted the metro.

Flights resumed around 5 p.m. after the airport stopped all traffic for about three hours.

KCI made the announcement about the decision to temporarily close at 2:50 p.m. A spokesperson for the airport said it was due to rapid ice accumulation at the airfield.

The closure caused massive impacts for travelers and caused delays at other airports across the country.

Travelers impacted by the closure are being told to check with airlines for specific flight information and to reschedule.
