LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - A crash caused a mess in Lawrence Saturday night.

Police believe a driver hit a fire hydrant near the roundabout on Inverness Drive at 24th Place. Investigators said the driver didn’t stop.

Water spewed out of the damaged hydrant. Officers called city crews to turn off the water to the hydrant, but not before water poured onto the road.

The cold temperatures will cause all of the water to freeze, making that area even more dangerous than it would be without the damaged hydrant.

Police warn people living in the area to be aware of the possibility of additional ice on the road near the roundabout.
