Former Chiefs WR Kadarius Toney arrested in Georgia, accused of strangling woman
DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. (KCTV) - Former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney has been charged with assaulting a woman and preventing her from calling for help in Georgia in late January.
Toney, who spent the past season with the Cleveland Browns after being released by Kansas City following training camp, was arrested and booked into the Douglas County Georgia Jail on Feb. 6.
The 26-year-old was charged with aggravated assault and obstructing or hindering an emergency call according to Douglas County jail records. According to the Associated Press, Toney was released the same day on $50,000 bail according to a person who answered the phone at the jail.
AP reported Toney put his hand around a woman’s throat “with enough force to cause her to be unable to breath(e)” on Jan. 14, 2025, at his home in Douglasville, Georgia. That’s about 20 miles west of Atlanta.
“An investigator wrote that red marks were visible on the woman’s neck, as well as hemorrhaging in her eyes,” the AP said.
The charge for obstructing or hindering an emergency call was the result of Toney taking away the woman’s phone and canceling voice commands while he physically assaulted her, a second warrant the AP obtained said.

Toney was active for just three games in the Cleveland Browns 2024 season. After being a first-round pick of the New York Giants in the 2021 NFL Draft, Kansas City traded for him in October of the 2022 season.
Toney was a Super Bowl hero with a touchdown catch and the longest punt return in Super Bowl history in Kansas City’s 38-35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 57. He was inactive for the Chiefs in Super Bowl 58 following a year of injuries and drops.
He was released by the Cleveland Browns on Dec. 10, just before Kansas City played the Browns in Week 15 of the 2024 NFL season. In four seasons in the NFL, he totaled 82 receptions for 760 yards and 3 touchdowns.
