KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - After 20 years, Hereford House is closing its Zona Rosa doors. This is the second location the iconic Kansas City steakhouse has closed in less than a year.

On Wednesday, the restaurant shared the following statement:

“After 20 years serving the Northland community, we have made the difficult decision to close Hereford House in Zona Rosa as our lease has ended. Hereford House still has two locations in Independence and Shawnee.”

When asked why, a spokesperson told KCTV5 “Unfortunately, we were unable to agree on long-term lease ,” but clarified “We have absolutely no plans to close the other two locations.”

Last August, the Hereford House in Leawood closed its doors after 28 years.

The restaurant was at the center of a food contamination case last spring and closed due to the financial strain. The former employee accused of being at the center of the case, Jace Hanson, is back in court on March 14.

This closure does not appear to be related to the contamination case.

KCTV5 reached out to Zona Rosa for comment and is waiting for a response.
