KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Kansas City Host Committee tasked with planning for World Cup 2026 said it’s ahead in the planning process when it comes to transportation.

KC2026, announced it signed a lease for 200 buses last week. The buses will be used during the FIFA World Cup 26 in Kansas City.

The committee said Kansas City is the first of 16 Host Cities to announce it acquired buses for the tournament next year.

The buses are expected to transport as many as 650,000 visitors to events surrounding the World Cup in the region.

This is how the buses are expected to work:

  • World Cup 2026 buses will complement existing bus routes
  • Available in Kansas and Missouri
  • Buses used to transport fans to
    • Matches
    • FIFA Fan Festival
    • KCI Airport
    • Hotels
    • Downtown Kansas City
    • Other locations

Funding for the buses comes from a number of areas, including State of Missouri, State of Kansas, and Kansas City, Mo.

The buses will be wrapped in FIFA World Cup 26 Host City branding.

Additional buses may need to be leased before the event arrives, depending on the overall transportation plan.

The expanded bus service is part of an overall plan that also includes park-and-ride options, the Kansas City Streetcar, and expanded bike and walk options.

KC2026 said it plans to have its transportation plan in place and delivered to FIFA by the end of March.
