TOPEKA, Kan. (KCTV) - As the federal government continues to run the newly-implemented Department of Government Efficiency, led by senior advisor Elon Musk, states are following suit.

While President Donald Trump created a non-government program in DOGE, states are now following suit with similar set-ups. In Kansas, the state legislature has opened a Senate Committee on Government Efficiency, known as COGE, which “invites the public to submit ideas on how state government can better serve the residents of Kansas.”

Residents can submit those ideas to the Government Efficiency Portal.

“The purpose of this portal is to receive ideas from the public about ideas to make Kansas government more efficient and effective,” the page reads. “Please submit ideas where you believe government could be improved to better serve the public. The committee will review those ideas as it deliberates and considers legislation.”

The form asks respondents to share their first and last name, age, email address, living location and a policy area. Choices include:

  • Education
  • Finance
  • General Government
  • Health
  • Human Services
  • Judiciary
  • Natural Resources
  • Public Safety
  • Transportation

The prompt then asks for comments to be written about the policy area.

Billionaire Elon Musk was on Capitol Hill Tuesday for meetings with Republican senators about DOGE’s practices. Musk previously told lawmakers he thought DOGE could save $1 trillion in the federal government in 2025 alone.
