Driver ‘quickly caught’ after allegedly crashing car, running from police

LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - A Lawrence man is facing several charges, including a felony, after he reportedly ran from police early Sunday.

The Lawrence Police Department said officers were initially called to The Outhouse at N 1500 Road in the morning hours of June 1. It was reported that a suspect had crashed and then left the scene.

Around 5:30 a.m., officers saw the suspect’s car without its headlights on near 23rd and Naismith. They tried to stop it, but the suspect drove off with police in pursuit until he crashed into a fence at W 27th Terrace and Lawrence Avenue.

After crashing, police said the man tried to run “but was quickly caught” and taken into custody.

Booking records identify him as Paul W. Holladay, 43, of Lawrence. He is facing several charges, including one felony:

  • Flee or attempt to elude a law enforcement officer by engaging in reckless driving
  • Interference with a law enforcement officer (felony)
  • Driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol
  • Possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Transporting an open container
