Royals share behind-the-scenes video of Jac Caglianone’s Major League call-up
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The top prospect in the Kansas City Royals system is set to the Major League club this week in St. Louis.
Monday morning, the Royals made the official announcement that 2024 first-round pick Jac Caglianone had his contract selected by Kansas City and would be ing the team Tuesday in St. Louis for the start of a three-game series with the Cardinals.
On the same day the club made the news official, the Royals shared a video of Omaha Storm Chasers manager -- and former Royals third base coach -- Mike Jirschele sharing the news with Caglianone.
“How do you feel?” Jirschele asked Caglianone. “You feel a little tired? Because you’ve been doing a lot of stuff.”
“Like, not bad,” Caglianone responded.
“I mean, you’ve been doing outfield stuff and you’ve been taking your ground balls,” Jirschele said of the Royals top prospect, a natural first baseman who has been getting reps in the outfield in anticipation of playing there in MLB games.

After Caglianone said former Royals first base coach Rusty Kuntz has been helping him, Jirschele asked if he felt like he was at the point where he could help the Royals.
“Yeah,” Caglianone said.
“All right, well, then you can get on the charter tomorrow night and go with them to St. Louis,” Jirschele said.
“Holy crap,” Caglianone said. “That sounds great.”
Jirschele reminded Caglianone, “it’s still a game. It’s baseball.”
“It’s a little higher level but you know you can play,” he told the 22-year-old who was selected sixth overall in last summer’s draft.
In 199 minor league at-bats this season, Caglianone has a .322 average, 15 home runs, 56 RBIs and 41 runs scored. He got his MLB call-up before playing 80 total minor league games.
