Kansas City breaks daily rain record as heavy storms douse metro

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Kansas City metro received significant rainfall Tuesday, with rain falling throughout the morning, afternoon and evening.

The National Weather Service of Kansas City said as of 7 p.m., Kansas City had received 2.46 inches of rain, breaking the daily record of 2.25″ set in 2015.

Included in the heavy rainfall was significant storms. Several severe thunderstorm warnings were issued along with a few tornado warnings that included major portions of the Kansas City metro area.

According to First Warn 5 Chief Meteorologist Luke Dorris, the total rainfall for Tuesday alone is worth a half-month’s rain total in just a day.
