(Gray News) - A major clothing store announced plans to close nearly 200 stores in 2025, according to recent reports.
Torrid, a plus-sized clothing store, revealed plans to close up to 180 “underperforming” stores on Thursday when it announced first quarter earning results.
Lisa Harper, Torrid’s CEO, said the company “delivered first quarter results in line with expectations,” however, digital continues to be customers’ preferred shopping tool, which makes up of 70% of total demand.
“We’re accelerating our transformation to a more digitally-led business, which includes optimizing our retail footprint. We now plan to close up to 180 underperforming stores this year, allowing us to reduce fixed costs and reinvest in areas that drive long-term growth, including customer acquisition and omnichannel enhancements,” she said.
Since the end of May 2024, the California-based brand closed 26 stores, including two in the first quarter of 2025. In total, the company operates 632 brick-and-mortar locations around the country.
