WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A Cheney family wants to alert the public after discovering an Apple AirTag duct-taped to the bottom of their 10-year-old daughter’s bicycle seat.

Parents Jayla Krueger and Tarl Jones were shocked on Sunday when their daughter discovered the suspicious device during a bike ride.

“Her friend noticed something taped to the bottom of the bike seat, and they brought the Apple AirTag in,” Krueger said.

This Apple AirTag—a tracking device typically used to monitor the location of easily lost items—was not placed by the couple. They believe someone else did it.

They immediately feared the worst.

“Someone wants to kidnap our kid,” Krueger said, suspecting that a stranger was tracking their child.

Jones said the situation is alarming.

“It’s a heart drop, you never think something like that could happen to your family, and then you see that and your mind instantly goes to the worst places,” he said.

Krueger agreed that it makes you think twice about your child’s safety.

“What if she hadn’t found it when she did? What if she was riding to her friend’s house and didn’t make it?” she said.

The couple took the AirTag to the police and now urges other parents to stay vigilant.

“This just shows that if you have kids, you really need to keep track of them and check their belongings,” Jones said. “You’ll never know what you might find—like an Apple AirTag under a bike seat. It’s not something I ever would have guessed I’d find.”.

So far, police have obtained a partial phone number from the AirTag. If you have any information regarding this case, you are asked to the Cheney Police Department.
