Clinton babysitter called to court after alleged incident of child abuse
CLINTON, Mo. (KCTV) - A Clinton babysitter has been called to court after she allegedly abused a child that had been left in her care in December.
Henry County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Monday, June 9, indicate that Ruth E. Rogers, 58, of Clinton, has been charged in connection with an alleged incident of child abuse.
A probable cause statement filed by the Clinton Police Department revealed that on Dec. 20, 2024, a child’s parents reported that Rogers had abused their child while she was babysitting him. A video of the incident showed Rogers grab the child by the neck and shoulders, causing the victim great pain.
Investigators noted that the force Rogers had used to grab the child was so great that it left a visible injury, which she allegedly told the parents had been caused by their dog.
During an interview with investigators in February, Rogers claimed to have only hooked the child’s shirt with her finger. However, the video made clear that this was not accurate. She claimed to love all of the children she watched and that she thought the child’s behavior was cute, despite her angry demeanor in the video.
As a result, Rogers has been charged with two counts of child abuse. A criminal summons was issued to her on Tuesday with a court appearance scheduled for 9 a.m. on Friday.
No further information has been released.
