Gov. Kehoe extends compensation for families of fallen safety officers through 2031

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Missouri’s governor signed Senate Bill 81 Tuesday morning, addressing various public safety issues.

The law also includes extending the Line of Duty Compensation Act, which had been set to expire on June 19, 2025. With Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe’s signature, the law will now sunset Dec. 31, 2031.

With the Line of Duty Compensation Act, families of fallen safety officers are awarded $25,000 for a death in the line of duty.

Other items in the Senate Bill include expanding criminal background checks, expanding criminal background checks and Trey’s Law, which authorizes that NDAs signed after August 28, 2025, shall no longer be enforceable for childhood sexual abuse actions brought and broadens the list of criminal acts that qualify as “childhood sexual abuse” under civil law.
