‘Tremendous response’: Blue Springs School Board applauds severe weather response
BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (KCTV) - Tornado sirens sounded as severe storms blew through the Kansas City metro in the middle of the day last week, catching many people away from home.
In Blue Springs, it caught dozens of parents and guardians waiting to pick up students from summer school.
“I know we had about 100 parents, I think was the estimate, that we brought into Blue Springs High School because they were all in the pickup line at the time. Just providing a safe space until it was all clear and we could move forward was outstanding,” Bob Jerome, Blue Springs Superintendent, said.
Jerome and of the Blue Springs School Board discussed the response during the June 9 board meeting.
“Tremendous response,” Jerome said.
“Having an officer, sometimes two in every school building adds to communication on radios and communicate with central office. Response time was awesome.”
There were no severe injuries reported from the Blue Springs storm, and there was very little damage in that area of the metro.
“I know my kiddos felt safe and secure and I just really appreciate all the extra care you give to our kiddos,” Rebeca Swank, school board president said.
