LENEXA, Kan. (KCTV) - The Lenexa Old Town Activity Center opened on June 10 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The City of Lenexa posted photos from the ceremony on X.

This includes more than 23,000 square feet of renovated and constructed space on the 2.6-acre campus. The activity center is in Old Town Lenexa at the corner of Santa Fe Trail Drive and Pflumm Road.

The building will serve the whole community with expanded recreation, enrichment and social gatherings.

Over $12 million was invested by the City of Lenexa into the project, and it combined two older facilities into the new building. Funding came from Lenexa’s Capital Improvement Fund, federal grants and a city-wide 3/8-cent sales tax.

“This is a fresh chapter for Old Town,” said Logan Wagler, director of Lenexa Parks and Recreation. “With its mix of indoor and outdoor amenities, this center will be a cornerstone for connection and community. Whether you’re a senior exploring new interests, a parent enrolling your child in a camp, or a resident looking for a place to gather and play, this new space will provide something for everyone.”

Improvements include the following:

  • New east wing providing more space for the more than 50 city programs
  • Renovation of the west side, including an additional 1,300 square feet of room for increasing programming sizes
  • Accessibility improvements
  • Restroom and locker room improvements
  • New outdoor features: pickleball courts, a turf area, shuffleboard courts and a shaded porch
  • Replacement of the aging facade
  • A 900-square-foot mural by Evan Brown

Public input played a huge part in the design of the building. Multistudio was the architect for the project, and Turner Construction was the general contractor.

Flexible indoor and outdoor spaces and amenities make Old Town Activity Center ideal for all types of events.

Expanded hours will start in the fall.
