Investigation continues into cause of commercial building fire near Berkley Riverfront

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Firefighters continue to investigate what caused a blaze to spark in a vacant commercial building near Kansas City’s Berkley Riverfront.

The Kansas City, Missouri, Fire Department says that around 1:25 p.m. on Friday, June 13, emergency crews were called to the area of E. 1st St. and Berkley Pkwy., across the street from Vicinity Energy, with reports of a fire.

When first responders arrived, they said they found smoke coming from a vacant single-story commercial building. An offensive operation that included multiple hoses was started as searches of the structure came back clear.

By 2 p.m., firefighters said they were able to bring the blaze under control. No injuries have been reported as an investigation into what caused the fire continues. No further information has been released.
