Black bear caught taking a dip in man’s hot tub: ‘He had fun’
PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (WBBH) - Florida wildlife officials had to trap and relocate a bear that took a dip in someone’s hot tub and napped for hours on their lanai.
Residents in the Punta Gorda Isles community woke up last Sunday to find an uninvited guest: a black bear with a taste for luxury.
Landscapers spotted the bear running through a resident’s backyard and called 911. When officers knocked on the homeowner’s door to warn him, he thought they were joking.
The bear took a bath in the man’s hot tub, removed the cushions from the couch underneath the lanai and took a six-hour nap.
“I wish I had that life. He had fun,” resident Waldina Flores said.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says they tried using what they call hazing techniques to encourage the bear to leave. The animal eventually made its way to a nearby vacant lot and climbed a tree.
Wildlife officials say the bear was relocated to its natural habitat last Monday night.
